Pentlatch Seafoods Ltd

Pentlatch Seafoods Ltd. became incorporated in March of 2004. The shellfish aquaculture company currently possess 7 intertidal tenures totaling 64.3 ha. All sites are located in the Comox Harbour, Royston and Baynes Sound.

To ensure that PSL is successful in the future, the company has deployed 41 million clam seed and 3 million oyster seed over the past 3 years. The commitment of clean water quality is also a priority with our company through our Environmental Stewardship program. Future consideration for PSL may also be given in examining the potential for culturing such species as:

Jason Cobey, KEDC Board Chair

Jason Cobey

Jason is a proud member of the K’ómoks First Nation and father of two. Jason was asked to take on the KEDC Board Chair position in 2023.

For the past 25 years, Jason has been in the education field as a teacher and administrator. He is currently employed with Comox Valley School District #71 as Principal of Queneesh Elementary School. Previously, he has been a school administrator at Miracle Beach Elementary, Vanier Secondary, Boston Bar Community Elementary/Secondary School and Bella Bella Community School.

Jason holds a Master’s of Education in Leadership Studies from the University of Victoria as well as a Bachelor’s of Education from Malaspina College University (Vancouver Island University).

Jason has been an active member of the KFN Education committee. He is currently a Trustee for the Education Trust and a member of the KFN Finance and Audit Committee (FAC). He advocates for the education of our youth through his work locally as President of the Comox Valley Principals and Vice Principals Association (CVPVPA), as well provincially through his work on numerous committees with the BC Principals and Vice Principals Association (BCPVPA).

Ken Price, KEDC Board Member

Ken Price

Ken is a proud member of the K’ómoks First Nation. Since 2023, he has held one of two Council Representative positions on the KEDC Board.

Ken is a member of the Forest Professionals of British Columbia as a Registered Forest Technologist (RFT), with an educational background in Natural Resource Management, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Log Marketing and Sales, implementing certifications / processes, and structuring large business partnerships. He has deep experience in large project delivery, system implementation and advocacy for more First Nation representation in reshaping forestry policy. His forestry career has spanned a range of portfolios, mainly with Mosaic Forest Management (previously TimberWest).

Ken was elected Chief Councillor for the Nation in January 2023. He holds a number of additional board positions, including with the Nanwakolas Council, Naut’sa mawt Tribal Council, and the A-Tlegay Fisheries Society.

Susan Savoie, KEDC Board Member

Susan Savoie

My name is Low Qwa low Gwa (Susan Savoie). I am a K’ómoks member. I lived in community while raising my children. I am a descendant of the Frank clan. My maternal grandfather is James Wilson of Wei Wai Kai and my grandmother Irene Wilson (nee Frank nee Wilson) Church House. My paternal grandparents were Earnest Savoie (Neguac NB) and Margaret Savoie (nee Leblanc). My parents are Yvon Savoie and Connie Savoie (nee Wilson). I have two wonderful children Madison and Zeb.

In my early career, I was a small business owner. The business offered full catering services, also a 20-30 seat café, so essentially two businesses. Young and inexperienced, I worked to the best of my ability. I certainly learned a lot. I took that opportunity and ran with it, that’s what business is.

I worked for KFN for some years, from 2016 until 2022, learning the inner workings of the Administration. The positions I held were Youth Coordinator, Elders Coordinator, and Social Development Coordinator. Along with those roles, I headed a very successful Youth Action Committee (YAC), and also supported the development of the K’ómoks Feasting Guide, which was a great learning experience.

I was elected to the KFN Council January 2023. I subsequently joined the KEDC Board mid 2023 as a council representative. I feel it is important to support the economic growth of the Nation to attain KFN’s own hopes and dreams, through self determination, transparency, informed decisions, KFN can attain self reliance. Having all aspects of KFN (Administration; Treaty; KEDC) working together utilizing cultural values and beliefs will guide our community to a prosperous future.

Jim Shaw, KEDC Board Member

James (Jim) Shaw

Jim became a KEDC board member in September 2023.

Jim brings more than 35 years’ experience in accounting and financial governance experience to his role. His background spans many sectors, including corporate banking (Scotiabank), education (University of Alberta), and government (BC Ministry of Forests) and industrial forestry (Catalyst and Mosaic Forest Management). His most recent position was as Operations Controller at Mosaic.

Jim holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Forestry, a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Alberta, and a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. He is also currently a board member for the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Society in Nanaimo.
