KFN Committees: community voices shaping KFN governance
A KFN Committee is typically an advisory body that consists of community members, respective department staff, and a Council representative with the corresponding portfolio, in the role of an observer. A committee provides members the opportunity to have their voices heard, and to advise and give direction and recommendations on KFN policies and projects. Each committee has its own Terms of Reference and is managed by a member of staff. We strive to ensure diversity and inclusivity in all committees, recommending Elder and Youth representation on each one.
There are two main types of committees – advisory and working committees. Most committees are advisory committees, which provide recommendations on how to proceed to address a topic or issue. A working committee requires more in-dept review, work, drafting, management and a more significant time commitment.
Committees can be internal (staff and Council only) or external (community members, experts, etc.), ad-hoc (created for a specific time frame) or standing (ongoing).
All Committee members are subject to all references to the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest within the KFN HR Policy within sections 24 and 26 as if they were employees or independent contractors.
