POSITION: Full-Time Fisheries Coordinator

LOCATION: K’ómoks Administration Building

REPORTS TO: Natural Resources Manager

SALARY RANGE: $28 to $33 per year (based on 35 hours a week)

The Opportunity

The Fisheries Coordinator plays a key role in the stewardship, protection, and sustainable use of fisheries resources within K’ómoks First Nation’s traditional territory. This position advances KFN’s inherent rights, title, and fisheries interests by supporting habitat stewardship, economic fisheries development, regulatory engagement, community consultation, and intergovernmental collaboration—especially with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO).

What You’ll Do

  • Monitor fisheries activities, catch reporting, and compliance requirements
  • Support fisheries management planning, stock assessment coordination, and harvest planning
  • Coordinate field monitoring programs (salmon enumeration, habitat surveys, water quality monitoring)
  • Support habitat restoration and enhancement initiatives
  • Assist with FSC programming and community fisheries initiatives
  • Support economic/commercial fisheries licensing coordination and reporting
  • Liaise with Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Province of BC
  • Participate in advisory boards, technical working groups, and fisheries forums
  • Prepare briefing notes and technical summaries for Chief & Council
  • Collaborate with KFN fishers, Elders, and knowledge holders to integrate traditional knowledge
  • Coordinate community workshops and information sessions
  • Maintain accurate records, permits, harvest data, and program documentation
  • Assist with funding applications, budget tracking, and reporting
  • Support referrals review for projects impacting aquatic ecosystems
  • Contribute to fisheries planning documents (Annual Fishing Plan, Operational Guidelines, Joint Management Plan)

What You Bring

  • A diploma or degree in Fisheries, Biology/Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource/Environmental Management, or a related field—or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2–4 years of fisheries technical and/or coordination experience (field monitoring, catch monitoring, stewardship, data/reporting, or community liaison).
  • Experience delivering fisheries initiatives such as FSC programming, habitat restoration, ecological monitoring, or rebuilding initiatives
  • Experience managing data systems, databases, catch monitoring records, and reporting
  • Experience working with or for First Nations communities, including respectful engagement and relationship building.
  • Knowledge of Pacific salmon, shellfish, and coastal BC fisheries.
  • Knowledge of fisheries legislation, including the Fisheries Act
  • Strong organizational, project coordination, and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and develop clear summaries.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management tools
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence
