SALARY RANGE: $30-38 per hour (based on a 35-hour week)

About the Role
Are you passionate about environmental stewardship, Indigenous rights, and responsible land use planning?
K’ómoks First Nation is seeking a detail-oriented, strategic thinker to join our Natural Resources team as an Environmental Referrals and Project Coordinator. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is motivated to protect lands, waters, and resources for future generations.
You will play a pivotal role in supporting K’ómoks First Nation’s rights and title by leading the multi-disciplinary review of development referrals across our territory. Acting as a key liaison between the Nation, Crown governments, agencies, and project proponents, you will help ensure informed, values-driven decision-making that aligns with K’ómoks Stewardship Policy and community priorities.
What You’ll Do:
- Review and analyze development referrals under the Strategic Engagement Agreement with the Province of BC
- Assess land use decisions, policies, and projects that may impact K’ómoks territory and traditional use areas
- Monitor environmental legislation and regulatory changes to inform recommendations
- Collaborate with Natural Resources, Treaty, Guardians, and Lands teams to support coordinated decision-making
- Engage community members and external agencies to advance referrals management objectives
- Coordinate project timelines, activity tracking, and communications
- Support budget tracking, invoicing, and reporting
- Maintain organized and compliant records management systems
- Prepare Council briefings, reports, presentations, and funding proposals
- Provide clear, evidence-based recommendations to leadership
- Mentor junior staff and contribute positively to team culture
What You Bring:
Education & Experience
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Sciences (Forestry, Biology, or related field)
- 3–5 years of relevant professional experience
- Experience with First Nations consultation and negotiation processes
- Knowledge of Fisheries Act, Environmental Assessment Act, and related legislation
- Understanding of Aboriginal rights and title frameworks, including UNDRIP/DRIPA
- Experience working with sensitive, legal, confidential, and political matters
- Experience working with Indigenous communities preferred
Skills & Abilities
- Strong analytical skills and ability to synthesize complex information
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; GPS/GIS experience is an asset
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a growing, dynamic environment
- Cultural awareness and understanding of First Nations governance in BC
- High emotional intelligence, tact, diplomacy, and professionalism
- Sound judgment and strategic decision-making ability
- Ability to remain calm and objective under pressure
